Ally Protects the La Jolla Seals

is the empowering story of a young girl taking a stand to save these delightful marine mammals and preserve their home.

About the Author

Deborah Saracini

After a personal encounter with a seal pup on my beach in Del Mar, I have been a Docent Coordinator and Trainer for the Sierra Club Seal Society and La Jolla Friends of the Seals since 2007. I became both an educator and political activist, working with others to successfully lobby San Diego City Council and the California Coastal Commission to close Casa Beach/Children’s Pool for the annual harbor seal pupping season. So essentially, this book represents my story tailored to the level of a 10-year old reader.

About the Book

Ally Protects the La Jolla Seals

“Eeeek!”

While Ally is snorkeling in La Jolla, a seal pup tugs on her flipper and changes her life forever. Though frightened at first, Ally quickly notices that the seal is just playing with her. But when Ally sees a group of people taking photos of the seals, touching them, and kicking sand their way, the mother seals flee into the water, leaving their pups alone. With the help of her friends and a lifeguard to move people back, she is relieved that the mother seals reunite with their pups.
